Portrait and Landscape
October 25 - November 3, 2018

Elisa by Farigh Ghaderi

There is something about Morocco that has captured the fascination of artists throughout history. This is a unique invitation to paint, sketch, gather with other artists and enjoy the rich bounty of color and texture that is distinctly Morocco. Join Farigh and Authentic Traveler for a 10-day artistic immersion. We travel from Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou and Todgha Gorge painting breathtaking landscapes and indigenous people.

Day 1 to 4 - Arrival at Marrakech Menara airport and transported to Ait Ben Haddou where you spend three nights at Kasbah Tebi, actually inside the World Heritage structure. There are visual delights in and around every corner. You'll have free time to roam the tiny streets, climb to the top of Ait Ben Haddou or find a walkway that inspires you. You may even choose to take a donkey ride down the river bed. During our stay we visit a local artist who makes natural pigments in the traditional way.

Day 7 to 8 - We travel halfway back to Marrakech and stay overnight along the way.

Authentic Traveler always travels at a human pace.

The captivating presence of

the Red City. Marrakech.

Day 8 to 9 - We spend two nights in the visually delicious Red City of Marrakech. The Souk (marketplace) is buzzing with sights, sounds and smells that inspire and tantalize. Set up your easel or make sketches at Jemaa el-Fnaa, Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, Jardin Majorelle, and so much more.

After breakfast on Day 10 - Transfer and depart from Marrakech airport. If you wish to extend your stay in Morocco, Ahu can make arrangements for you.

Farigh talks about the Workshop:

We will paint/sketch landscape and portrait in an outstanding environment.

The workshop covers composition, drawing, structure, underpainting, value,

and color. The process is an easy to follow, step by step method. I will provide demonstrations throughout the workshop either in Swedish, English, Kurdish, Persian or Italian.

This is a great opportunity to see why Orientalists like Delacroix and Zorn

were fascinated by Morocco.

"It is often we come the closest to the essence of an artist... in his or her pocket notebooks and travel sketchbooks... where written comments and personal notes provide an intimate insight into the magical mind of a working artist."

Day 4 to 7 - We travel to the breathtaking Todgha Gorge and stay 3 nights at Auberge de la Festival. Here we have the opportunity to paint local Nomads from the area and sleep in cave rooms. There are people still living in the caves of this Gorge. Our host serves food from their organic gardens.
